Being a goblin (or other traditionally evil demi-humans not worth paying much attention to) isn't easy. Slave to all, master of none. Goblin tribes (or other groups) can be enslaved by all sorts of villains. These can be Giants, Evil Dragons, Orcs, Hobgoblins, Ilithids, you name it. Even within a tribe there are challenges to simply exist, the strongest and most cunning survive, the weaker ones serve as slaves to the rest. And that's just those on your side... hunted by Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and all the other do-gooders. There really isn't any winning as a goblin (or other traditionally evil demi-humans not worth paying much attention to).
Survival of the fittest and most cunning (as cunning and fit as one can be as a creature not worth paying much attention to) is required to survive in this harsh, tribal environment.
- Skill Proficiencies: Survival and Deception are skills indispensable to a Tribal Minion. When food is scare, being able to scavenge a couple of frogs can mean the difference between life and death. Deceiving others and hiding knowledge of said frogs from the prying eyes of others more so.
- Languages: Learning the languages of your masters' provides a helpful leg-up for the the up an coming goblin chieftain (or other not-noteworthy leader wannabe).
- Equipment: Tribal Minions possession are few if any, whatever one possesses is a mish-mash of varying quality (a piece of equipment may very well be of high quality). Otherwise, shovel, a crowbar, an iron pot, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp.
People rarely notice Tribal Minions unless they are causing too much trouble. Otherwise, a Tribal Minion will likely go unnoticed walking into/amongst a generally evil army/horde. They'll likely be manhandled and treated as appropriate based on their normally unworthy race.
In more accepting parts of the world (that are more metropolitan) you may be seen as a curiosity worth questioning by scholars hoping to gain insight into the inner workings of the people you have served in the past.
Suggested Characteristics
A Tribal Minion comes from the lowest ranks of what are usually described as the bad guys. As such their origins can be quite humble or very exciting. They bring insight from communities ands/or peoples not normally represented.
