Although they are solitary by nature, hags sometimes feel the need for companionship. Usually one scratches this itch by acquiring servants she can insult and slap around as she wishes. Such a creature might be charmed into compliance, or under a spell that stops its heart if it disobeys, or too afraid of nonmagical punishment for failure to do what she says. Most hags have some kind of slave or minion creature living with or near them as a defense against attackers, even if it's just a common animal.
Over the course of a seemingly endless lifetime, a hag typically discovers or creates several unusual ways to use magic. The weird magic that hags can call upon comes in a number of forms and with various means of activation. Even those who have read scholarly books about hag lore can't predict what a particular hag might have up her sleeve. A grandmother or some other hag of great age and renown might know unique rituals that can temporarily or permanently alter or transform a creature, bring back the dead for a limited time, rewrite memories, or siphon emotions. Though you likely were some kind of slave or minion living with or near them as a defense against attackers, the weird magic at a hag's disposal has shaped the way you view arcana. You see magic as a complex system waiting to be decoded and controlled.

Each of the six common types of hags prefers a particular environment.
| d6 | Type of Hag |
|---|---|
| 1 | Annis hag (mountains or hills) |
| 2 | Bheur hag (wintry lands) |
| 3 | Green hag (dismal forests, swamps, and moors) |
| 4 | Night hag (fey origin) |
| 5 | Sea hag (underwater or on the shore) |
| 6 | Dreamthief hag (shadow fey origin) |
You have a basic knowledge of the structure of a hag's lair, including the stuff behind the walls. You have seen a hag pass solid walls, doors, ceilings, and floors as if the surfaces weren't there. A hag can magically seal off and disguise entrances. Many hags settle in places where the barriers between the mortal world and the Feywild are thin. Your knowledge of this grants you advantage on a Wisdom (Perception) check or an Intelligence (Investigation) check when searching a hag's lair. Once you use this ability, you can't do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
Spell List
Prerequisite: Spellcasting or Pact Magic class feature
For you, the spells on the Hag Spells table are added to the spell list of your spellcasting class. (If you are a multiclass character with multiple spell lists, these spells are added to all of them.)
| Spell Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| Cantrip | control flames, gust, mold earth, primal savagery, shape water |
| 1st | chaos bolt, create or destroy water |
| 2nd | barkskin, dragon's breath, shadow blade |
| 3rd | erupting earth, life transference, thunder step |
| 4th | control water |
| 5th | awaken, control winds |
Your spells tend to be strange, flashy, or explosive, even when the effect is unremarkable. For example, when you cast a spell it might be outlined by harmless, showy sparkles.
If you use an arcane focus, it probably takes the form of a weird object that could include a rusted gauntlet, orc-tusks, a frog kept in a jar, and an owlbear-feathered necklace.
Suggested Characteristics
The life of a hag servant is embodied by some combination of chaotic, frenetic energy, in varying proportions. Some are committed to intellectual curiosity and even academic pursuits, whilst others just like the stranger things in life.

| 2 | I have my own ideas about what is and is not food, and I find the eating habits of those around me fascinating, confusing, or revolting. |
| 3 | I place no stock in wealthy or well-mannered folk. Money and manners won't save you from a hungry owlbear... or worse. |

| 5 | I express affection or contempt in ways that are unfamiliar to others. |
