You are a craftsman (smith, jeweler, tinkerer, artificer, etc.) that puts a little more into what you create. Many create magical items, blessed by a Dwarven god or etched with a magical rune, but you and your ilk will do anything and everything to create that perfect magical item that may topple cities or even magically refresh food. What matters is that you will go to any lengths to imbue what you create with whatever it needs, whether its runes spoken in the deepest Hells to a little bit of ground up Celestial feathers. You study your worlds' magics, but what you create goes beyond just a little more protection or damage. You want to create something that changes the world.
You may come from a line of craftsmen that specialize in magical items and/or weapons, you may be traveling the world to catalog all the unique magical items out there, possibly to improve on their design at a later date. You may also be a heretic who was banished from his/her homeland after one too many demons got accidentally summoned. What you are, ultimately, is a mad genius who's always willing to push the boundaries (of decorum or of what is sane). Just know that you don't mind a little risk(or a lot) if it gives you just a little more knowledge.
- Skill Proficiencies: History, Arcana
- Tool Proficiencies: One type of artisan’s tools
- Languages: Two languages.
- Equipment: A set of artisan’s tools with which you are proficient, a set of traveler’s clothes, and a pouch containing 5 gp and a gem worth 10 gp
When you see a particularly noteworthy item related to your chosen craft (if you are a smith, you may notice a very unique sword, for example), you can make a History check to see if you recognize the item. This doesn't work as Detect Magic, but if that item has any sorts of legends about it, you may have come upon them in your studies.
