You were an apprentice, assistant or a student to a knowledgeable and well known artificer. Depending on how your time was during your apprenticeship, you might have learn various techniques and crafts or you may have fumbled your way through. Which ever applies to you has resulted in the end of your apprenticeship, for better or worse. With what you have learned, you have likely either become knowledgeable in the ways of the artificer, or this could be seen as a new beginning.

Feature: Artificer's Pupil

You might not be as well known as your mentor, but by using your mentor's name, you can sometimes get what you want. Many common folk will be impressed with you or acquiesce to certain requests if you tell them the name of your mentor, especially if you demonstrate you own ability. Other artificers may grant you an audience as well, if they know and respect your mentor. You may have a piece of gear bearing the symbol of your mentor, be it your tools, your garb, or a sigil, amulet, or ring you wear, and may be use that to demonstrate your association to your mentor.

Variant Artificer's Apprentice: Student of the Artificer's Guild

You learned your skills as an artificer from a guild of artificers rather than a singular mentor. You can either use the "guild membership" feature from the Guild Artisan / Guild Merchant background or the "Respect of the Stout folk" feature from the Clan Crafter background.
