Maintaining balance in the natural order and combating the forces that threaten that balance is the twofold goal of the Emerald Enclave. Those who serve the faction are masters of survival and living off the land. They are often proficient in Nature, and can seek assistance from woodsmen, hunters, rangers, barbarian tribes, druid circles, and priests who revere the gods of nature.

As a prelude to your adventuring career (and in preparation for it), you served as a member of the Emerald Enclave. You might have operated openly or secretly, depending on the faction and its goals, as well as how those goals mesh with your own. Becoming an adventurer doesn’t necessarily require you to relinquish membership in your faction (though you can choose to do so), and it might enhance your status in the faction.

Skill Proficiencies: Nature and Survival
Languages: Two of your choice
Equipment: A Emerald Enclave emblem, a necklace of small trinkets and baubles of naturelife, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp

Rank and Renown

The Emerald Enclave doesn’t classify its members in a rigid hierarchy, because doing that would encourage individuals to seek to rise above the rest of the community and put their desires above the good of the whole. Thus, aside from the leadership of the Walker over the whole faction, and each Nature Guardian, the members of the Enclave are distinguished mainly by the diverse roles they fill instead of by rank or status.

Indeed, many Emerald Activists never leave that basic role. They have discerned their purpose, and it is to live a proper life in support of the Enclave, without pursuing any kind of prestigious role. But if you achieve greater renown in the faction, a variety of special roles become available to you.

Regardless of renown and role, members of the Enclave don’t earn salaries. The faction cares for its own, however, and every member can live in nature itself at the equivalent of a modest lifestyle.

Gardener (Special Role)

Prerequisite: Renown 3 or higher in the Enclave

The majority of time spent for Gardeners is to simply help cultivate nature in civilized settings. They plant groves, keep parks clean, talk with animals, just keeping to themselves for the most part. This is the role most adventurers take, as this does not involve them having to sit in one designated area for long stretches of time, able to simply move with easy.

Over a short rest, if you have loose wood available, you can create a quarterstaff, shield, or 20 bolts or arrows. The quarterstaff and shield will break after a day of use, and the bolts and arrows will break after being fired. You cannot recreate these items using the same wood you made them out of.

Initiator (Special Role)

Initiators extend their hands to potential converts and welcome new activists into the life of the Emerald Enclave. They include fervent preachers who speak the will of the wilds in the promenades and marketplaces, and humble missionaries who serve among the poor in the darkest districts of larger cities.

As an Initiator, you gain an additional proficiency in Persuasion, as you've learned and molded your craft well. However, you are one of beginner roles that spends the least time with other members, the majority of your time spent directing others to learn and join.

Thorn Guardian (Special Role)
Master of Wilds (Special Role)
Shaman (Special Role)

Shamans lead rites that invoke the blessing of nature itself, bringing the Enclave’s initiates into closer communion with the gods of nature and with each other. They are assisted in these rites by less experienced clergy.

As a Shaman, you can call on the aid of 1d4 acolytes (Monster manual), even leading them on missions.

You have an important voice in decision-making for the Enclave, and you are expected to offer advice and opinions to your Nature Guardian when requested. Your position within the Emerald Enclave gives you access to superior food and lodging, the equivalent of a comfortable lifestyle.

Nature Guardian

Working as knights and champions, a Nature Guardian is one of the highest esteems. You are entrusted with a swath of land to protect, and are seen as the guide of many Activists below you, their spiritual leader, and moral compass.

The Walker

The Walker is the highest honor in the Emerald Enclave, a well loved and trusted individual who is entrusted with the guide of the Emerald Enclave's goals. A new Walker is chosen every few decades, as an understanding that as the world around them changes, a change in sight and scope is necessary to grow with it.

Enemies and Allies

The Emerald Enclave have no immediate enemies in the grand scheme of things. They appreciate growth and change of the world, and understand the importance of everyone's roles in its process.

However, if a faction or an individual would threaten the balance of everything, they will not hesitate to take action against them, standing as the call of nature and protectors of life.

Feature: One With the Wild

Through long, careful practice, you have learned how to communicate with the life around you in every small part. You are able to communicate with and understand plants and smaller animals, for directions, advice, and anything else you may come to think up.
