Militia Image

You served as part of a militia force, guarding your local community from the occasional bandit raid or goblin attack. You were never a professional soldier, and most likely had another, more mundane job when you weren't being called upon for duty. Despite this, facing battles and potential injury for your home served as a stark reminder of the dangers that lurked beyond your village, making it hard to ever truly be comfortable.

Skill Proficiencies: Athletics, Perception
Tool Proficiencies: One type of gaming set, one set of tools
Equipment: A gift given to you by a grateful villager (a flower, a woodcarving, or a quilt), a set of bone dice or deck of cards, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 5 gp

Feature: Militia Training

You are familiar with militia forces and village defense. At a glance, you can tell how sufficient the defenses of a village are, as well as how prepared it is for attack. Additonally, you are able to rally villagers to defend their town if you are present during an attack, or other event that would require an armed response.

Suggested Characteristics

Militia members tend to be fiercely dedicated to their local communities while simultaneously catching glimpses of the wider world through the lense of its dangers. This can cause some militia members to double down and become almost xenophobic, while others do the opposite, and yearn to see more of the good side of the world.
