Ever since you were a child you have enjoyed experimenting and inventing. Perhaps your pursuits included clockwork devices or new - and at times, dangerous - alchemical solutions. Regardless, you are driven to experiment further, pushing your limits to learn what makes things work and how you can bend them to your will.

Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, Investigation
Tool Proficiencies:  Choose either tinker’s tools or alchemist’s supplies.
Languages: One of your choice
Equipment:  Your chosen artisan’s tools, a journal detailing your past experiments, a bottle of black ink, a quill, a small pouch, three empty vials, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gp.

Feature: Inquisitive Mind

Your experience with experimenting gives you a unique perspective when examining constructed instruments. If someone made it, you can discern how they did so. After 10 minutes of careful inspection, you understand how any piece of engineering (i.e. clockwork device, trap, enchanted object) works unless it requires attunement. Additionally, you have advantage on Intelligence checks related to your chosen artisan’s tools.
