You were accepted into, and later graduated from, the College of Mages. After years of learning and training, you became a confident wizard with the skills to manipulate magic at a basic level, and earned your degree in the field of the arcane arts as a graduate of one of the specific "Majors", such as evocation or abjuration, or graduated as a Universalist. The College of Mages will always be your home, regardless of how long ago you graduated, and the libraries and avenues of learning offered by the College will always be yours to use.

Because of the fact that you have graduated from the only official institution for the training of wizards, your Degree has a significant meaning to those who seek to hire mages, adventurers, scribes, or anyone who has scholarly skill. Simply waving your Certificate of Graduation will impress anyone looking to hire you for a job in the arcane field. It can also be used to intimidate those of a lesser education into believing you're superior to them. Regardless, being a wizard in the Realm of Tourssance without a Certificate is a good way to get in trouble with agents of the College and law enforcement officials.
A Certificate of Graduation can grant the wielder advantage on Persuasion checks that pertain to:
Convincing an employer to hire them, convincing someone of their arcane knowledge, convincing someone that you have a superior education to them, convincing someone that you know about some field, study, or set of facts you don't actually know about, that you actually haven't broken the law, and that you are a man/woman of scholarly standing.
A Certificate of Graduation is also mandatory when having an academic discourse with serious wizards.
A Certificate of Graduation will reappear within 24 hours, completely intact, if destroyed or stolen in any manner.
Also, Graduates can count the College as a base of operations, and can find temporary lodging there, though freeloading is not encouraged. The professors there are always happy to help with an arcane problem, and they can identify the purpose of almost any magic item, scroll, or writing. The main resource available at the College is the Library of the Arcane, a massive archive of almost every book (magical or not) ever published. If a Graduate needs to find a piece of lore or some obscure piece of knowledge, this is the best place in the continent to do so. The Library is massive, and searching for the right tome of knowledge requires a select number of hours, as detailed below:

The services of the Library are completely free to Graduates or students. Note that those who are not students and not Graduates are unconditionally barred from entering the College whatsoever, unless an explicit note of passage is given to the outsider from the Headmaster himself.

Any former student of the College can return to the campus and talk with former professors or even administrators of the College, though a formal request will have to be filed for the latter group. The Library of the Arcane is always open to Graduates, and information on a certain subject is never too hard to find. Almost any book imaginable is available in the Library of the Arcane.
