As an executioner, you were convicted of a crime worthy of death, or born into a family of executioners convicted of an especially heinous crime. In exchange for your life, you work as your city's, or town's, executioner. To mark you as such, you have been branded with an indisputable symbol on your face, neck, or arm indicated to all the job you perform. If you were the individual convicted, you also bear a partnered brand announcing the crime of your conviction. Although these brands are known ubiquitously throughout your home, their exact meanings may be obscured in foreign lands. Not only do these permanent markings announce your profession, they also inform your neighbors of your stance in society.
Work with your DM to determine your home's laws surrounding your role as executioner. Many executioners are denied certain rights and privileges such as partaking in democracy, living within the city, dining with civilians and nobility, buying from market, entering a public establishment, and marrying. Although these drawbacks exist, executioners are at the call of their government. Not only will you be called to perform capitol punishment, you may be asked to serve as a body guard, a torturer, a doctor or surgeon, or even perform duties of body disposal and city maintenance. Your life is simple, but not always easy, and your persistence in this career hinges on a flawless performance and a willingness to comply. Together, you and your DM should determine the exact regulations of your station.
Some of the benefits of being executioner may include (but are not limited to): A noble contact, a precise pay for performing duties, criminal contacts, medical expertise, provided housing, and privilege to driot de havage. Driot de havage, or the right to dip into, is often granted by law to an executioner who is not permitted to buy from a market, or enter a public establishment, and grants them access to tax vendors for minimal amounts of free food and necessities to live within their city or kingdom.
