Caravan Trader Image

You’ve spent most of your time driving pigox across Tesua, getting goods from small town to small town. You know how rough life is out on the desert and you know just how to get things done and keep the caravan moving. You know that in order to stay alive, you have to keep moving.

Discuss the nature of the caravan you worked with your Dungeon Master. Where in Teusa did you travel, what were you selling, and who were the people you traveled with? Is it from a famous caravan line or was it run by simple folk who just wanted to travel?

What work did you do on the caravan? Were you just a hand to move cargo and goods, or did you participate in the trade itself? Maybe you were a guide hired on to help travelers or a guard protecting a very dangerous or valuable cargo.

Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from Athletics, Deception, Persuasion, and Survival
Tool Proficiencies: Vehicles (land), Carpenter's Tools
Equipment: Travelers clothes, a whittled token, a sack marked with your caravans insignia, carpenter’s tools, and a pouch containing 15 gp.

Feature: Supply and Demand

You’ve once been part of the important chain of supply and demand, and you know how it works. When you look for items or labor to purchase you know who to go to, to find reliable labor or rare goods. If the area you’re in doesn't have what you’re looking for your knowledge of the supply lines can lead you to an area that will have the items or labor that you seek. Your DM might tell you that the goods you seek might be too expensive or rare for any trader to carry, or that no laborer is willing or capable to help you.

Variant Caravan Trader: Snake Oiler

While you did spend time on the road with a caravan what you did was much more malicious. Taking common items and giving them strange names and new appearances you swindled hard working folk out of their precious coins. Selling faulty potions, fake magical items, or making rigged games the coins are all that mattered to you.

If you decide that your on your time on a caravan your were a snake oiler, you can choose the Wonderful Splendor feature instead of the Supply and Demand feature.

Variant Feature: Wonderful Splendor

If your character has a caravan trader background, you may select this background feature instead of Supply and Demand.

In your profession holding people's attention it paramount to selling them the product. You can create a spectacle that draws in the attention of most if not all passerbys around you. If you have products to sell or something to keep their attention you can hold it for 5 to 10 minutes, otherwise you can create a distraction that lasts a few seconds to 1 minute. Depending on the quality of any products you may sell, a town's opinion may change greatly.
