Most of your life, you have spent staying out of sight, avoiding being caught while gathering valuable information to your superiors. You do not hesitate to use violence to keep your presence hidden, or would compromise your task. You have access to unique sources of dark magic and hidden knowledge no other wizard can imagine.
Before your adventuring life, you have been a member of a powerful organization in Thay. Your duty as a member has been to seek and bring enemy agents to face the judgment of your superiors. Whether the enemy agent was dead or alive, didn't matter. After becoming an adventurer, you can still work as a member of the faction. Maybe you are on a secret mission to gather knowledge of enemy movements or to find magical items to aid your organization to fight their enemies. Perhaps you saw something that forced you to abandon the faction with haste.
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from among Arcana, Deception, Perception, Stealth
- Tool Proficiencies: Choose one among from Disguise kit, Forgery kit, or Alchemist's Supplies.
- Languages: Choose one among from Thayan or Mulhorandi.
- Equipment: Red robe, a set of tattooist's tools, a mystic arcane sigil, a set of traveler's clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp.
Thay is divided into two distinct groups, who have remained to compete of the rule of Thay.
Szass Tam's Agent. You serve the Zulkir of Necromancy, a powerful lich pursuing to become a god. The general means to achieve such of position is by searching powerful artifacts, making deals with demons, and hunting down followers of former Zulkirs. You are accustomed to working with undead servants and even with those who have a higher rank than you have. Agents of Szass Tam are supporters of necromancy and masters of dark magic.
Thayan Resurrection. This small rebelling faction is the last surviving group of devoted followers of Zulkirs, who were slain in combat against Szass Tam. Their mission is to overthrow Szass Tam from the throne of Thay, and they choose to do so by hiding out of sight, waiting for right moment to deliver a mighty blow to this evil necromancer and its lackeys. Agents of Thayan Resurrection tend to dislike the school of necromancy, although they are used to live among undead cratures. They are often proficient with Stealth or Deception. They seek to create and find magic items to sell them or to help with their cause.
As a faction agent, you have access to a secret network of supporters and operatives who can provide assistance on your adventures. You know a set of secret signs and passwords you can use to identify such operatives, who can provide you with access to a hidden safe house, free room and board, or assistance in finding information. These agents never risk their lives for you or risk revealing their true identities.
