You've spent the last four years of your life in a classroom learning the theory of adventuring. You were part of a particular school, learning how to develop your strengths, and work with others to bolster your weaknesses.
- Skill Proficiencies: 2 skill proficiencies of your choice
- Tool Proficiencies: 1 Tool proficiency of your choice
- Languages: 1 Language of your choice
- Equipment: A set of traveler's clothes, a book of lore, Academy Diploma, and a pouch containing 15 gp.
Each student spends the majority of their time in the School that is most representative of their education.
d6 | School of Study |
---|---|
1 | School of Knife and Fist (Monks and Rogues) |
2 | School of Wand and Flame (Sorcerers, Warlocks and Wizards) |
3 | School of Light and Life (Clerics and Paladins) |
4 | School of Harp and Drum (Bards) |
5 | School of Fauna and Flora (Druids and Rangers) |
6 | School of Blood and Blade (Barbarians and Fighters) |
You spent some time in a structured environment learning all sorts of things. So, whether delving in a dungeon, or helping townsfolk, you have been taught what to look for and what to do. You have knowledge of monsters outside of what normal people would have. When you encounter a creature, you may make an Intelligence (Investigation) check at a DC (10 + 1/2 monster's CR, rounded up) to know some information about it (up to the DM's discretion based on the degree of success/commonness of the creature).

Any two skill proficiencies of your choice seems a bit OP. Maybe your proficiencies are general adventuring stuff such as perception (always useful) or athletics. Some of the more useful ones...
Also, you may want to re- do the ideal bit.
They are meant to look like:
Selflessness. You should help those who help themselves. (Good)
I appreciate your feedback.
Ultimately this is really just supposed to be a "just graduated from university" sort of deal. It would be a disservice to assume that all people that go to college come out with the same sets of skills. I guess what I was going for is more the "Pick your own, mix and match" with a little bit of focus.
I do, however, agree with that you mean about the ideals. This is perhaps my weakest part and I've been looking for a way to improve this. I like your suggestion, and I will take it under advisement.
Thank you!
this is a cool backaround.
