Whatever your past life was, it was interrupted by a near-death experience that was thwarted by someone else. Either because of your cultural background, personal sense of duty or happenstance you swore an oath to that savior. Whether the oath you swore was happily accepted, categorically refused or something in-between, you have learned how to be there for your charge. As such, people recognize the genuine care you exhibit and help you out in subtle ways; if you happen to accompany your savior somewhere your station is normally not well-received people will accept your presence without batting an eye; when looking for accommodations you might be offered a place to stay near your trustee for cheap, folks are forthcoming with information of the whereabouts of your savior or even help you hide or provide a place to rest for them on your behalf.
