Driven by a thirst for knowledge, the mad scientist has sacrificed much for the sake of their research. Viewed in the public eye as eccentric at best, and crazed at worst, the mad scientist typically could not care less about their public reputation - just the results of their latest project. And, of course, funding for such research. One person certainly cannot pay for all those doohickeys, now can they?
Feature: Research Collegiate Board
As an established and respected member of a research board, you can rely on certain benefits that membership provides. Your fellow board members will provide you with lodging and food if necessary, and pay for your funeral if needed (though usually in payment of the remainders of their project). In some cities and towns, a research hall offers a central place to meet other members of your profession, which can be a good place to meet potential patrons, allies, or attract hirelings.
A research board often wields tremendous political power. If you are accused of a crime, your associates within the collegiate will support you if a good case can be made for your innocence or the crime is justifiable. You can also gain access to powerful political figures through the board, if you are a member in good standing. Such connections might require the donation of money or magic items to the board’s coffers.
You must pay dues of 5 gp per month to the research board. If you miss payments, you must make up back dues to remain in the board’s good graces.
