You understand wealth, power, and privilege but are about it not. You carry a noble title, and your family owns land, collects taxes, and wields significant political influence, but your heart is elsewhere. You might be a pampered aristocrat unfamiliar with work or discomfort, a former merchant just elevated to the nobility, or a disinherited scoundrel with a disproportionate sense of entitlement but everything you do, you do for the guild. Or you could be an honest, hard-working landowner who cares deeply about the people who live and work on your land, keenly aware of your responsibility to them yet overrun with passion to save the turtles.
Work with your DM to come up with an appropriate title and determine how much authority that title carries, although most often Visco Guild Members are the type of nobility that has a title but little responsibility. Your noble title doesn't hold sway over your judgement, it simply gives you the rank and leisure time typically necessary to devote yourself to Visco Guild matters. The fact that you are nobility and others are not is quite often an afterthought for Visco Guild members.
While Visco Guild members' only guild requirement is to commission one portrait of themselves a week and send it to at least one other noble, they can be recognized by the following optional traits (choose at least one):
- Colorful clothing, especially that brought about by the mixing of multiply dyes in an orderly chaotic fashion
- Large, fluffy hair holders that can be both worn in the hair or on the wrist
- A cylindrical canteen called a "water flask"
- Thick hide moccasins known as "Burkhart Sox"
- Secret code words such as "andai'oop" and "sksksk"
- Skill Proficiencies: Performance, Persuasion
- Tool Proficiencies: Disguise kit
- Languages: One of your choice
- Equipment: A set of fine clothes, a signet ring, the most recent portrait of yourself, and a purse containing 25 gp
Thanks to your fellow guild members also typically being nobility with too much time on their hands, you have many friends in high places. Or at least who are adjacent to people in high places. Along with the typical benefits of nobility, other Visco Guild members are very likely to do you a favor at the drop of a hat, just as you yourself would be willing to do anything for another guild member.
Suggested Characteristics
Most nobles are born and raised to a very different lifestyle than most people ever experience, and their personalities reflect that upbringing. A noble title comes with a plethora of bonds—responsibilities to family, to other nobles (including the sovereign), to the people entrusted to the family’s care, or even to the title itself. But this responsibility is often not the main concern of the Visco Guild member.
