Almost all of the common people and other folk that one might encounter along the Sword Coast or in the North have one thing in common: they live out their lives without ever traveling more than a few miles from where they were born.
You aren’t one of those folk.
You travel to see more of the world, to meet as many people and cultures as possible. To be able to support this travelling way of life, just as an entertainer would entertain, you help people with their wounds and illnesses. People are happy to pay for a visit at the inn, or invite you to spend a night at their home, when you helped them or their loved ones feel better.

A travelling medic might have set out to travel for one of a number of reasons, and the departure from his or her home could have been voluntary or involuntary. To determine why you are travelling, roll on the table below or choose from the options provided.
d6 | Why Are You Travelling? |
---|---|
1 | Desire to help |
2 | Exile |
3 | Fugitive |
4 | Pilgrim |
5 | Sightseer |
6 | Wanderer |
You can always find a place to sleep in exchange for your medical expertise. In a small village, there are almost always injuries or illnesses that you can help with. Either by relieving the patient of his pain with herbs, set a broken bone, or provide the proper herbs to help cure whatever ails the patient.
In a larger town, which generally have their own medics and healers, you can always find people who can't afford the normal commodities, who are happy to share what little they have in exchange for your medical expertise, but don't expect a high level of comfort in any sleeping arrangement that comes out of this deal.
