You committed a crime long ago, and you were imprisoned for it. Not long ago you got out, perhaps you served your sentence or escaped. You now live your life to right the wrongs you have committed, to hopefully feel free from this guilt. You are not free from all of your shackles just yet.
Perhaps you got out by swearing oaths to become a cleric, paladin, or to fight in a war; and are working to pay your “debt” to society.

You rally yourself to your cause, gaining inspiration to complete what needs to be done. Add a d6 to a attack, check, or saving throw once between long rests. This upgrades to a d8 at level 6 and to d10 at level 11. At level 17 get this feature back after a short rest instead.
Suggested Characteristics
Perhaps you hide your past in fear of being shamed. You may tell others that you can’t be trusted as you can’t even trust yourself to do the right thing. Work with your DM to find how best to implement your redemption or fall into the campaign.
