Armed with an inventive intellect, a love of magical technology, and unquenchable energy, you were an enthusiastic apprentice to not one, but three separate Gnomish engineers. You had high hopes of climbing the ranks of the engineering corps, but after starting a few somewhat minor explosions, where almost no one was injured, and the fires didn't even spread to other buildings, you came face to face with the Gnomish engineering corps' short-sightedness in regards to magical exploration. The word banished was never used, but the dirty looks and grumbling got the point across, so you set your eyes on the more enlightened culture of Citadel, liberated a family heirloom to seed your new ventures, and made your way to the mainland. You have been traveling the land for several years now, repairing goods in small villages, and conducting your research in the wilderness where no one throws things at you when something inevitably blows up.
- Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, Investigation
- Tool Proficiencies: Land vehicles and one type of artisan’s tools
- Equipment: One set of artisan’s tools, the charred and twisted remains of three failed experiments, a hammer, a covered wagon with two goats, a set of common clothes, and a belt pouch containing 5 gp.
Feature: Gnomish Infrastructure
The popular conception of the Gnomish Engineering Corps is based on mad inventions, dangerous experiments, and explosive blasts. Much of that perception is accurate, but the league is also involved with mundane tasks of construction and architecture — primarily in crafting the infrastructure that allows Gnomes to enjoy running water, levitating platforms, and other magical and technological wonders.
You have a basic knowledge of the structure of buildings, including the stuff behind the walls. You can also find blueprints of a specific building in order to learn the details of its construction. Such blueprints might provide knowledge of entry points, structural weaknesses, or secret spaces. Your access to such information isn’t unlimited and obtaining or using the information may get you in trouble with the law.
Suggested Characteristics
You embody a combination of chaotic, frenetic energy and intellectual curiosity, in proportions that vary from day to day. You are committed to academic pursuits, but also a good explosion is always fun.

The family patriarch is a member of the Engineering Corps' board of directors and he seems very upset that I stole...ahem...liberated some ancient family heirloom. "You've doomed us all blah blah blah...," Great Grandfather Talks Too Much.
