Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

Much like the great firebird that is this oath's namesake. Paladins of the Phoenix fight on and persevere, undaunted by the threat of death. They promise to heal the sick and wounded, be generous, honest, and available to serve the needs of others. They exemplify the promise of the phoenix -- To rise from the ashes born anew and bettered.

The tenets of the Oath of the Phoenix are as follows:

Fire: Knowledge and experience are a flame to be kept alive. Dying without passing it on is to extinguish it. Travel, learn, create and teach to nourish this flame.
Ashes: Even in the most humiliating of defeats, the Phoenix always rises from its ashes born anew. Learn and rise above those who once rose above you.
Rise: Fire does not discriminate. All things must end so that they may continue the endless cycle of rebirth. From the ashes all things rise better than they once were.

Oath of the Phoenix Spells

The magic of your oath ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Paladin level specified in the Oath of the Phoenix Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Oath of the Phoenix Spells
Paladin Level Spells
3 Burning Hands, Feather Fall
5 Healing Spirit, Scorching Ray
9 Fly, Ashardalon's Stride
13 Death Ward, Wall of Fire
17 Mass Cure Wounds, Immolation

Rise Again

At 3rd level, as a champion of the phoenix, you are gifted with its powers of endless life. If a spell, such as raise dead, has the sole effect of restoring you to life (but not undeath), the caster doesn’t need material components to cast the spell on you.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Tears of the Phoenix. You are able to invoke the healing powers of the phoenix. As an action, you can fly up to your move speed, without provoking opportunity attacks, and when you move within 5 feet of any other creature during this action, you can restore a number of hit points to that creature equal to 3d6 + your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1 hit point). A creature can receive this healing only once whenever you take this action.

Wings of the Phoenix. You call forth the great fiery wings of the phoenix. As a bonus action, two large wings of pure fire emerge from your back. For 1 minute you gain the following:

  • You have a flying speed equal to your walking speed and can hover.
  • Whenever a creature ends their turn within 5 feet of you, you may deal fire damage to them equal to your Paladin level.
  • You are resistant to fire damage and shed bright light in 30 feet.

Aura of Rebirth

Starting at 7th level, the life-giving power of your oath to the phoenix pours outward from you as a rejuvenating aura. Whenever an allied creature ends their turn within 10 feet of you, they gain temporary hit points equal to your Proficiency bonus.

Whenever you or an allied creature within this aura would be reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you may use your reaction to have yourself or the creature reduced to 1 hit point instead.

A creature must complete a long rest before they can benefit from this feature again. You may use this aspect of your aura a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum once) per long rest.

When you reach 18th level in this class, the aura affects creatures within 30 feet of you.

Rekindle

At 15th level, the undying flames of the phoenix burn fierce in your heart. You now passively recover during battle.

At the start of each of your turns, if you are conscious, you restore a number of hit points equal to your spell casting modifier. Alternatively, if you are suffering from a negative effect, such as the poisoned condition, you can choose to forgo healing at the start of your turn and instead end any and all negative effects ailing you.

From the Ashes

At 20th level, through your faithful devotion to your oath, the very soul of a phoenix now resides within you. If you would be reduced to 0 hit points, you instead burst into flames, and from your ashes, you rise as a phoenix.

You do not have access to legendary actions or legendary resistances while transformed this way and this transformation lasts for 1 hour or until you choose to dismiss it as an action. If you are reduced to 0 hit points while in the form of a phoenix, you activate the Fiery Death feature and then emerge as your normal form with half of your maximum hit points. You must complete a long rest to be able to transform into a phoenix this way again.
