Artificer
Base Class: Artificer

Calligraphers are experts of writing, creation through words, symbols, and the arcane. These markings will guide the Calligrapher to get out of hard situations and change the tides of battle.

**Scroll Crafting.** When you scribe a Spell Scroll using the crafting rules in the Player’s Handbook, the amount of gold required to craft it is halved.

Calligrapher's Supplies

You gain proficiency with calligrapher’s supplies. If you already have proficiency with both, gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice.

Calligrapher Spells

3rd-level Calligrapher feature

You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Calligrapher Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Arcane Reservoir

3rd-level Calligrapher Feature

Your practiced hand stores arcane potential in ink or paint.

  • Reservoir Uses. You have a number of reservoir uses equal to twice your proficiency bonus. You regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
  • Inscribing a Mark. As a Bonus Action, you can expend 1 reservoir use to inscribe a visible mark (a word, glyph, or symbol) on a creature you can see within 30 feet. A mark lasts for 1 minute or until it triggers. A creature can bear multiple marks, but a given mark ends when its effect triggers.
  • Multiple Marks. A creature can bear multiple marks at once, but marks don’t stack. Only one mark can apply to any single roll or event (such as an attack roll, a saving throw, or being targeted by an attack). If more than one mark could apply, the oldest relevant mark triggers first. A mark ends when it triggers.
  • Choose an Effect. When you inscribe the mark, choose one effect from the Markings table. The mark triggers the next time its condition occurs before the mark ends.

Markings

Name Effect
Aim The next time the marked creature makes an Attack roll, it adds 1d6 to that roll, then the mark ends. The dice the creature rolls increases to 1d8 at 9th level in this class and 1d10 at 15th level.
Protect The next time the marked creature is targeted by an attack, its AC increases by +2 against that attack, then the mark ends. The AC bonus becomes +3 at 9th level and +4 at 15th level.
Disrupt The next time the marked creature makes a saving throw, it subtracts 1d6 from that roll, then the mark ends. The dice the creature rolls increases to 1d8 at 9th level in this class and 1d10 at 15th level.
Entangle When you inscribe this mark, the creature’s Speed is reduced by 10 feet until the end of its next turn, then the mark ends. The amount of speed reduction becomes 15 feet at 9th level in this class and 20 feet at 15th level.

Sigil Casting

5th-level Calligrapher Feature

Written Casting. While holding a quill or brush that is part of your artisan’s tools, you can ignore the Verbal component of an artificer spell you cast by expending 1 reservoir use. You expend the use as part of the spell’s casting (no action required).

Marked Casting. When you cast an artificer spell with a range of Touch, you can treat yourself as if you were in the space of one of your marks that you can see within 60 feet of you. The mark must be on a creature within 5 feet of the spell’s target. You can use this feature once on each of your turns.

Twin Markings

When you inscribe a mark using Arcane Reservoir, you can expend 1 additional reservoir uses to inscribe one additional mark as part of the same Bonus Action. You can choose the same or a different effect and target. If multiple marks could apply, use the Multiple Marks rules above (only one applies; the oldest triggers first).

Also, the range of your Arcane Reservoir increases to 60 feet.

Master Scribe

15th-level Calligrapher Feature

Reservoir Recovery. When you roll Initiative and have no Arcane Reservoir uses remaining, you regain 2 uses.

Powered Aim. If a creature with your Aim mark hits a target with an attack, they will add your spell attack modifier to the damage roll.

Absorbing Mark. Your Protect mark now grants resistance to the triggering damage type until the end of the marked creature's next turn.

Quick Marking. When a creature within range of your Arcane Reservoir makes a saving throw you can use your Disrupt marking as a reaction, giving them the marking before they make their save roll.

Forced Tangle. When placing your Entangle mark on a creature, you can force the creature to make a Strength Saving throw against your Spell Save DC. If they fail they get the Restrained condition until the end of your next turn.
