Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Those who love living with a herd of animals and are more willing to measure wealth in the size of their herd-family than in coin, Mounted Raiders spend nearly half of their life mounted on one kind of animal or another (typically horses).  To avoid spooking their mounts, they often used ranged weapons like the shortbow.  This use of horse and bow often results in harrying hit-and-run tactics when in combat.

The Mounted Raider often lives on a diet of milk and cheese while traveling, and bread and beer when they get the chance.  Many even lightly ferment milk, forming a drink called Kumis which is similar to watered-down wine.

Animal Handling Expert

expertise in animal handling.

Herding Folk

You have proficiency in animal handling.  This proficiency becomes expertise when you reach level 6 in this class.

Find Mount

Over the span of a long rest in which you do not sleep, you may cast the spell find steed.  You still gain the benefits of a long rest, though you may still suffer the effects of lost sleep.  You are occupied for the entire rest while preparing for this spell.  It does not require a spell slot but does require somatic and verbal components.

When you reach level 14, you may also cast the find greater steed spell this way.

Power Draw

You may use your strength modifier when attacking with a shortbow.  You may also add your rage damage to attacks with the shortbow as well as thrown attacks that use your strength modifier.

Mount Bond

You may have two mounts gained from the Find Steed (and Find Greater Steed) spell(s) at a time.  At level 10 this number increases to three, and at level 14 it increases to four.  Each of your bonded mounts can give very basic commands to other animals that travel with you, such as "Follow me," "Run away," "Get to person A, B, or C," "Find person A, B, or C," and "Stay quiet."  They cannot cause other creatures to attack.  The number of creatures your bonded mounts can lead is equal to your proficiency bonus.

Superior Rider

You gain expertise in the animal handling skill.  Any increase to your walking speed is doubled for your bonded mounts.  While you ride them, your mounts gain advantage on any ability checks made to traverse difficult territory such as slippery ice and narrow mountain passages, as well as advantage on stealth checks related specifically to the mount (the rider is not guaranteed to remain as quiet as the mount).

Quick Mount

Mounting and dismounting an animal only requires 5ft of movement rather than half of your movement.  Both dismounting one animal and mounting a second nearby animal can be covered by this 5ft of movement, but any distance traveled between mounts uses movement of normally.

Mount's Rage

While raging, whenever you take the attack action your mount may use its bonus action to make an attack.  Any damage done this way adds your rage damage.
