Do any of you more experienced players recommend multiclassing further for my Half Elf, GloomStalker Ranger 5 /Rogue 3?
When I found out I was allowed to multiclass for the first time ever in my very short DnD life, I was super excited!
Due to my Rangers background, taking Rogue is painfully obvious, and BOOOOY what an addition it is!! However... looking at the other classes nothing really stands out to me like moving into Rogue did.
I'm wondering if I am missing something great, or if further multiclassing is just wasting development in Ranger/Rogue?
You could take a few levelsof fighter for things like another fighting style and action surge but generally you are most powerful if you dont multiclass too much.
I think your best option is to level up exclusively in ranger from now on Iron mind and stalkers fury are really good features and you also get higher level spells. Continueing to level in Rogue for uncanny dodge and evasion as wel as increased sneak attack is also an option.
I think it depends on what subclass of Rogue you're playing as. Some Rogue subclasses peak very early and are really only worth investing in further for the sneak attack increase, while Gloomstalker is basically an S-Tier Ranger who performs well from beginning to end.
Threepeat on not multi any further, really. I'd pick one fo your current classes and go the rest with it, to pick up higher end features of that class. That, I believe will benefit more than picking another class and getting a few front end perks. Ranger/Rogue combos usually do quite well, as both get solid boosts early, and both lean on Dex. Play to the strengths of your character and stats for optimal results and Ranger/Rogue lives well with a single stat.

Rogue 3 - assassin goes very well with gloomstalker. But unless you plan it out and know exactly what you are doing then I wouldn’t take another multiclass. 3 separate classes can really punish you if you make a mistake.
I'm guessing you didn't take Archery as your Ranger Fighting Style? it looks like you're planning to spec yourself pretty heavily into Ranged combat with Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter... at that point you might be better off asking your DM if you can re-spec and change your Fighting Style to Archery. I don't think it's worth taking a single-level dip into Fighter just for the additional fighting style.
One thing I would also recommend... instead of Lucky, look into Elven Accuracy. Getting to roll 3 die when you have Advantage is a pretty big boost to accuracy, and honestly will benefit you more, mathematically, than the Archery Fighting style in making sure your hits land. Pairs great with Assassin Rogue, since you have so many ways to get advantage already.
I totally forgot about that! Thanks for reminding me! I must look more into it, but I do recall thinking that it sounded great!
I will only have 4 feats, and crossbow expert and Alert are not going anywhere. That leaves Lucky or sharpshooter to be replaced for Elven accuracy.
I'm not sure my hunter 15/rogue 4 class misses out on much if I take 1 in fighting. Unless im missing something that Ranger 16 or rogue 5 gives?
I like the idea of having Lucky, but if I took Fighter 1 and get another +2 in attack rolls, then sharpshooter becomes that much more reliable... bumping Lucky down to being the least useful feat.
Hmmmm... decisions, decisions, decisions...
Is Elven accuracy much more mathematically beneficial?
You can't take the same Fighting Style more than once... so if you were to multiclass into Fighter you wouldn't be able to take the Archery Fighting Style again.
Lucky is one of those feats where it's useful for basically every build, but isn't gamechanging in any of them. I think the biggest difference between Lucky and Elven Accuracy is that Lucky can only be used 3 times per day, while Elven Accuracy triggers every single time you have advantage.
Oh really... I thought I just couldn't take more than 1 fighting style per class... You're certain that I can't?
If that's the case then there's no point in me taking Fighter 1. In fact... I just realised that I get my 5th feat at level 16... Or Uncanny Dodge to half enemy damage at Rogue 5
"You adopt a particular style of fighting as your specialty. Choose one of the following options. You can't take the same Fighting Style option more than once, even if you get to choose again."
Yep, no way to take the same Fighting Style twice, unless your DM just wants to let you do it. Otherwise you could multiclass Ranger and Fighter, then take the Fighting Initiate Feat and take Archery each time and get a +6 to your attacks.
There aare several classes that allow you to take a fighting style, by multiclassing you can get more than one. You can gain a further fighting style by tsking the fighting initiate feat.
Nowler, you took the archery fighting style when he reached ranger 2.
You were planning on taking a level in fighter where get gets to choose another fighting style to take the archery fighting style a second time and get the +2 bonus to attack increased to 6.
Transmorpher pointed out that is not allowed by the rules because iff you get to choose a fighting style when you already have one the second (and subsequant style) must be different. He went on to say
It is quite within the DM's right to change the rules and Transmorpher pointed out that if the DM allows you to select the same fighting style multiple times you can create a charact that doesn't just get to pick picjk a fighting stlye twice (by multiclassing ranger and fighter) but you could get to choose a fighting style a third time by taking rthe fighting initiate feat. By taking the archery feat each of those times you get to pick a fighting style you could get +6 to each of your attacks. I would recommend against your DM allowing that because it make the game less balanced.
"...then take the Fighting Initiate Feat and take Archery each time and get a +6 to your attacks.
Can you elaborate?
I just read Fighting Initiate Feat and I don't understand what you mean by "take archery each time..."
I am not making the connection
I just meant that the Ranger class, the Fighter Class, and the Fighting Initiate Feat all give you the opportunity to learn a Fighting Style. If you were allowed to take the same Fighting Style multiple times and stack all their effects together, that would give you a +6 to your ranged attacks, which would be terribly unbalanced, and that's why you're not normally allowed to take the same Fighting Style multiple times.
Multi-classing tends to not make sense if you take more than 3 levels of your non-primary class. There are some exceptions, but most of those are heavily planned ahead of time.
Fighting styles do not stack. You cannot take any of them more than once. No Archery x2.
That said, a second fighting style is worthwhile. Also take a look at Battlemaster Maneuvers, via Martial Adept.
My DM definitly won't be letting me take a fighting style twice. But that would be sick if I could! Sharpshooters hit rate would go up dramatically!
To be fair, the damage I'll do as a Gloomstalker Ranger & Assassin Rogue is going to be epic! Especially with Sharpshooter, Crossbow expert, and Alert. Sprinkle on some Eleven accuracy and the class feats.... yikes!
Any move into a 3rd class wouldn't be done until much later. So I'll decide then. But with the above, it's just not needed
I played as similar character. If you want to add another class, add 6+ level of shadow monk, giving teleportation in darkness on top of invisibility in darkness, as well as other fun monk stuff. You do have to go to level 14 in your case to get this though. (I got it at level 10, as 3 ranger, 1 rogue, 6 monk)

I've played a harengon Gloom Stalker 5/Assassin 8 (and lied my way into a gladiator-style arena thing, murdered my boss, and then took over the place with the rest of the party). I personally think you have more to gain from getting more Sneak Attack dice than the higher-level ranger features, but if you're going to Tier 4 there's a lot to be said for Gloom Stalker

Thanks for the input!
Yeah, sorry.
I should have said it was Rogue Assassin. Also, I will be taking the Rogue to level 4 as I get another feat at 4 (too close to pass it up).
After looking more into it and speaking with others, if I was to go for a 3rd class then it makes sense to go Fighter 2 for Action Surge.
But if I did that then I would have 4 on rogue and only leaving room to go Gloomstalker Ranger 14, missing out on shadowy dodge at 15.
I could go Fighter Lvl 1 to get the additional +2 to archery.
That would help massively with Sharpshooter as I already have +7, and I could pick Shadowy Dodge at Ranger 15
The feats I want are Crossbow Expert, Sharpshooter, Alert, and Lucky

Have you taken the Rogue Assasin Sub type? Love having initative and using the assasin skill 1st attack.
