This is a creative thread 4 story tellers, map makers, quest designers & world builders!
Contribute creative ideas freely and steal others, use it to develop your own quests and world, or just enjoy reading!
I have built the very rough beginnings of a world which you can access via the link below, with a geological and political map + a cool minimal character sheet (the still is from princess Mononoke).
I plan on adding more to this folder as I go, so stay tuned if you like it. This would include material on quests, maps, images, etc.
This is designed for more of a map-building & story based game where figures and politics impact the journey. I like the classic D&D world set up, but I want to go off-piste and make my own world with my own races and rules etc for my adventurers. I have been inspired by Tolkien, a Song of Fire and Ice, Nausicaa valley of the wind, Princess Mononoke, Elder scrolls, real world history, amongst other tales and dreams.
Would love if anyone felt moved to contribute maps within this map (ie: dungeons, castles etc that correspond to the places listed) or to add onto the world building (myth, more in-game characters, backstories, races, creatures etc), would even be cool if you wanted to write an accompanying story with your character (I know this D&D site isn't for writing purposes but its all about imagining and fantasy right!?)
If you would like to contribute your own fleshed out ideas, I would suggest providing a google drive link share to a written document or something. If you want to add it to my folder just request and I’ll give you edit access.
:^D
Link to google drive folder contains pdf documents (artefacts) of my world. Their quality is better when downloaded. Use firewalls to protect your computer from cross-site bugs (idk the lingo and how it all works exactly but be safe!)
A spot in the ocean, like the Bermuda Triangle, that is covered by red clouds. Everybody who goes there becomes corrupted and get lost at sea. These corrupted people, who end up turning into Tieflings, land at a small island in the center of the area and they form a civilization.
So basically, Tiefling island civilization in demonic sea

Some stuff I've been working on in my setting, obvs feel free at steal
In the centre of the region lies a huge (and I mean huuuuggeeeee) chasm, about 100 miles wide from north to south, 900 miles long west to east. Since its appearance 1,500 years ago, nobody has explored where it leads, though it's speculated to be an entrance to the Underdark (or Underdark equivalent). A strange mist emerges when one approaches the chasm, and any spells used in an attempt to descend immediately fail.
In my world, the chasm (referred to as the Scar) was formed by a mad and frenzied Vecna after he broke free from Cavitius and laid waste to an ancient dwarven settlement in the northern section of the Great Marshes. This is going to sound dumb but Vecna blew up the moon because he needed it as a material component for a spell to plunge the world into devastation. Vecna was banished back to Cavitius by four heroes of the realm, killing two of the heroes in the battle.
The moon was rebuilt from the few chunks that could be found, using the planet's (Thera's) stone to replace the missing parts.
In recent decades, two colossal chunks from the old moon have been discovered on Thera. Moon rock is considered incredibly valuable, but not much has been acquired because of strange creatures that reside on the chunks.

Sick. Broken moon idea is very cool, clever to make it a currency. Would love to hear more about the four heroes of the realm if you have written anything on them !

Cool. Potentially sounds like something do to with that goat deity Baphomet?

Tbh I don't have much lore written out about the heroes. Their party comprised of your typical human fighter, dwarf cleric, elf wizard, and halfling rogue.
The fighter and cleric were the first to die. Their tomb was dug out at the bottom of the party's multi-layered stronghold, Castle Blackstone (yeah it's a bootleg Castle Greyhawk).
Several years later, the rogue died. The wizard went mad and magically barricaded themself in the castle. For 500 years, the wizard laid the castle and its dungeons with magical traps and wards, and eventually died.
For hundreds of years, the castle has been a place of intrigue for adventurers and monsters alike. It has been captured and controlled by dozens of groups over the years, from orc tribes to bandit troupes, but none have stayed long. Most recently, the city guard of Avoria (a nearby settlement built upon the ruins of another civilisation) has successfully taken control of the castle itself, but none of the several layers beneath.

It's more like a portal to hell under the water leaking dark energy to this area. I guess it could lead to the endless maze. Perhaps the waters are infested with Sahaugin, or sea devils. What do you think of this idea?

Very cool idea, I really like the sound of contaminated evil water.
Would love to see a map of it. Perhaps on the island the coast is sort of the most tame and the closer you get to the centre the more hellish it gets or something?
Is there an incentive to adventure there? gold, treasure, power etc. Or would you make your players get lost at sea?
I'm totally stealing the broken moon idea. Love the use of pieces of it as currency.
In my world, there are three moons, which represent light, darkness (but in a Twilight Domain sort of way, not shadow demon style), and magic. Now, with the destroyed moon idea, I'll have it so there used to be a fourth moon, but it was destroyed, I'm thinkin' in some sort of cosmic battle whose victors just barely saved the planet from destruction. Since each of my moons is associated with a specific god, maybe the now-dead god of protection or something had to sacrifice himself to stop the evil gods from destroying the world. Yeah, I like that.
Thanks for the idea!

I’ll try to make a map.
It’s your world. You decide wether this is just lore referenced in the game or if it’s part of a side quest or if it’s key to the story. You’re the the DM and whatever you say goes.
What if the party was hired by a person of high society to collect moon pieces from the crashed moon, BUT they need a magic weapon that was lost at sea around the Devil’s Triangle?
heres an idea a small world with only five gods where it is considered okay to worship the first four which represent time, matter, fate and energy and they each are associated with water, earth, air and fire respectively and then there is the fifth youngest god who is considered evil because they embody entropy because the older four gods divvied up the world without consulting them and the stars function as a protective web keeping the fifth god from even interacting with creation because the god of energy hates the youngest and the others are forced to obey him
