You have created a familiar bond with an animal that was once a mortal, one you loved very much. The reason they are an animal is not important, what is important is for you to keep them alive. This bond allows you to call them back more easily than you would a traditional familiar. This bond operates in two ways:
Safe Recall: You can cast the Find Familiar spell to recall your loved one with a 1 round casting time. The bonded familiar appears in an unoccupied space you can see within 30 ft. of you and returns to full health. Any resources that the bonded familiar had spent before death remain spent.
Quick Recall: You can cast the Find Familiar spell to recall your loved one with a bonus action. Doing this pushes your mind to its limit and causes you harm. Doing this causes you to take a number of d6 of psychic damage equal to half your level rounded down. The bonded familiar appears in an unoccupied space you can see within 30 ft. of you and returns to full health. Any resources that the bonded familiar had spent before death remain spent.
