Posted Apr 24, 2019This feat is inspired by ctrlalt's 100% Full Power feat. Basically the original feat was a huge "I win" button that set your Dex and Str to 30 for 1 hour. Considering how extreme the power spike of such an ability is, I decided to tone it down a bit and expand on what can be affected in order to make it something interesting and flavorful but not necessarily broken while maintaining the original spirit of the ability. The idea here is that there has to be some sort of cost to exerting oneself beyond what is normally possible, and that no feat is going to magically make someone that capable. With that in mind I decided to incorporate the concept that using the ability was specifically for short bursts, and that doing so drained vitality in a more interesting way than just causing damage. The idea is that you expend future natural healing capability to be very proficient in one specific type of ability score. If you are not able to do so, you instead exhaust yourself. Due to allowing you to select every available ability modifier, it allows one the ability to choose to activate the ability out of combat in order to achieve things beyond the normal limits of the character in even social interactions. Thematically the reason for including the mental stats, is that you are draining your vitality and tapping into a type of spiritual energy to quickly improve yourself. Effectively the ability is like erratic and dangerous use of ki.
Overall I find this ability concept to be great in combat and out, because it really emphasizes the heroic or infamous nature of those who take the feat by causing themselves some harm to try and assure the desired result comes to pass.
