Grappler Improved Image
Prerequisite: Strength 13 or higher.

You’ve developed the skills necessary to hold your own in close-quarters grappling. You gain the following benefits:

  • Increase your Constitution score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
  • You gain proficiency in Athletics if you don’t already have it.
  • You can make grapple checks with expertise (add your PB twice).
  • You have advantage on Constitution saving throw that you make when resolving the "Breaking Free" Action.

A grappled creature has two options to break a grapple.

    • Escaping a Grapple: A grappled creature can use its action to attempt an escape. To do so it must succeed on a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check contested by your Strength (Athletics) check.
    • Breaking Free: A grappled creature may attempt to cause harm to the grappler instead, attempting to cause a looser grip. When making an attack whilst grappled, the creature can use its bonus action to try and break free. The attack has disadvantage but if successful the grappler must make a CON save 10 + the creatures Strength modifier (or half the attack's damage, whichever is higher) in order to maintain the grapple.

Creatures grappled by you must be no more than one size larger than you, if successful they fall under the effects of the Grappled condition, and the grappler gains the following action options. Each grappler action is considered 1 attack action.

    • Pin: You attempt to pin a creature grappled by you to the ground, or against any solid object. Make a grapple check, if you succeed you and the creature are both restrained and prone until the grapple ends.
    • Silence: Covering the mouth of the creature, you try to stop it from making any noise. Make a grapple check. If you succeed, the creature suffers from the silence condition until the start of your next turn.
    • Pound: Make an unarmed strike or an attack with a light weapon with advantage.
    • Drag: When you move, you can drag or carry the grappled creature with you, your speed is halved unless the creature is two or more sizes smaller than you.
    • Throw. You attempt to throw a grappled creature. The grappler's strength score dictates the maximum distance the creature can be thrown, with 13-15 strength the throw is 5 feet away, and every additional 5 base strength increases the distance by 5 feet.
    • Throw Prone: You attempt to throw a grappled creature to the ground. Make a grapple check. If successful, the creature is no longer grappled but is knocked prone.
    • Disarm: Target an item held by the grappled creature, and make a grapple check. If successful, the defender drops the item and cannot pick it back up without breaking the grapple. You have disadvantage if the defender is holding the item with two hands. The target has advantage if it is larger than you, disadvantage if it is smaller.
