You are able to see, hear and speak to the inhabitants of the Ethereal Plane whilst remaining on the material plane, likewise the denizens of this plane are able to see and converse with you, likewise you are able to see any person crossing the Ethereal Plane using a spell like Plane Shift. Careful though, although the low level inhabitants can do little to you you on the material plane they may attack you in a vain attempt to cross over back into the material plane*, if such a annoyance comes to pass convincing the specter otherwise is the best you can do, rolling a saving throw (Cha) to act as if they cannot see you.
From the Ethereal Plane you look as you are a ghost which mimics the actions of your true self in the material plane.
