Entangler

You are adept at entangling foes during combat.

• You gain expertise with the Athletics skill, which means your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make with it. The skill must be one that isn’t already benefiting from a feature, such as Expertise, that doubles your proficiency bonus.
• You have proficiency with nets and grappling hooks.
• Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn’t impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls with nets or grappling hooks
• When you successfully hit a creature no more than one size larger than yourself with a grappling hook or a whip, you can use a bonus action to try to Tether it to you by making a Strength (Athletics) check contested by the target’s Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (the target chooses the ability to use). You can only have one creature Tethered by any weapon at one time. While A creature can use its action to attempt to escape the Tether. To do so, it must succeed on a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check contested by your Strength (Athletics) check. You can choose to end the Tether at any time (no action required).

Tethered Condition

A Tethered creature cannot move away from a Tethering creature without first succeeding on a contested Strength (Athletics) check. If it succeeds, its speed is halved but it pulls the Tethering creature with it so that the distance between them does not increase.

If an effect (such as Thunderwave) moves a Tethered creature further away from a Tethering creature, the Tethering creature is pulled towards the Tethered creature so that the distance between them does not increase.

When a Tethering creature moves, it can pull a Tethered creature with it, but the Tethering creature's speed is halved unless the Tethered creature is two or more sizes smaller than it.
