Insanity (Level 2) Image

“That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death may die." - H.P. Lovecraft

Caused by frequent, intense mental trauma or unspeakable eldritch horrors, insanity is a special condition which can be either temporary or permanent and can be minor or debilitating. Upon experiencing an insanity-inducing event, roll a Wisdom saving throw. The DC is determined by the DM. If the event is major, subtract 5 to the roll. If the event is minor, add 5 to the roll. On a failure, add one level of insanity.

A creature suffers the effect of its current level of insanity as well as all lower levels.

Finishing a months worth of downtime reduces a creature’s Insanity level by 1, provided that the creature has not suffered a permanent level of insanity and has not experienced any intense mental traumas. Otherwise, decreases in level of insanity is made at DM's discretion.

Insanity: Level 1. Reality, dreams, and darkness begin to instill terror within your heart. All saving throws on abilities and other effects which cause the Frightened condition are made at disadvantage.
Insanity: Level 2. Whispers echo around every corner. Terror takes hold deep in the psyche. All wisdom saving throws are made at disadvantage, as paranoia sets in.
