Prerequisite: Strength 13 or higher.

You’ve developed the skills necessary to hold your own in close-quarters grappling. This adjusts the Grappling combat rule to only allow attacks, from both the grappler and the target being grappled, at disadvantage. You gain the following benefits:

  • Increase your Strength or Dexterity score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
  • You have advantage when making grapple checks and when contesting a grapple.
  • You may also make a grapple check using a Dexterity (Acrobatics) check.
  • When moving a grappled creature, your speed is now only halved if the creature is the same size as you or larger.
  • On a successful grapple check you may choose to knock the target prone. If you allow yourself to fall prone with the target, the target is restrained. If you decide not to fall prone with the target, the target is no longer grappled.
  • You may make an attack roll against a creature restrained by you with a weapon or with an unarmed strike without disadvantage. The weapon needs to have both the Finesse and Light weapon properties to be used in this way.
  • You can use your action to try to disarm a creature restrained by you. To do so, make another grapple check. If you succeed, you force it to drop one item of your choice that it’s holding.
  • You can use your action to try to choke a creature restrained by you. To do so, make another grapple check. If you succeed, the creature is stunned. The creature remains stunned for 1d4 additional rounds if the choke or grapple ends. Holding the choke for an additional round caused the creature to become unconscious. The creature remains unconscious for 1d4 rounds if the choke or grapple ends, and then the creature is stunned for additional 1d4 rounds after it regains consciousness.
