You have become capable of performing ancient ritual of your race to collect souls of the drowned. When a creature you can see within 60 feet of you that has a soul and no more hit dice than you dies, you can, as a reaction, retrieve or brandish an empty non-magical earthenware jar and capture its soul in it. If the creature didn't die by drowning or while submerged, its soul can choose to resist, causing the attempt to fail. If you succeed, you cannot do this again until you finish a long rest.
When you use this ability, you can choose to apply the effect of gentle repose to target's body. In addition, while its soul is imprisoned, spells that would bring creature to life, turn it into undead, or communicate with its soul, fail to work unless cast by the one who imprisoned the soul. The soul can be released by opening or destroying the jar, or by casting dispel magic or remove curse on it. If you try to have more captured souls than your level, the one captured earliest is freed.
Additionally, you know the spell speak with dead and can cast it once, recovering the use on a long rest. You can also cast it using spell slots. When a soul is imprisoned in the jar, this spell can be cast on it instead of on the body, with the creature's voice coming out of the jar, and there is no need to wait 10 days before casting the spell on the creature again. Similarly, when the one who captured the soul casts Divination or Necromancy spell that could target a corpse, they can cast it on the jar and it will target the corpse, even if it is not within range.
