You've studied magic thoroughly for one purpose, killing mages.
Choose either:
- Sometimes you have to use magic to get rid of magic. Once you take this feat you learn counterspell, this spell does not count towards your prepared/known spells. If you are a spellcaster, you can use your spellcasting ability to cast this spell, if not you may choose your spellcasting ability from Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma. You can cast this spell without expending your spell slots 3-times per long rest at half your level rounded down - th level. You don't need to roll in order to identify the spell being cast.
Or:
- If a spell is cast within your attack range (5ft for melee weapons without reach, 10ft with reach, 20ft with thrown weapons, 30ft with bows and crossbows) you can use your reaction to attack the caster. On hit, the caster has to make a constitution saving throw equal to half damage or 10 (whichever is higher). If they fail the save, the spell fizzles out with no effect and the spell slot is wasted. You may use this ability half your level rounded up times a day.
These come with both:
- Attacks against concentrating enemies cause them to roll their saving throw with disadvantage.
- With the time you spent researching and fighting mages you've learned to sense incoming magic and how to steel yourself against it. 3 times per long rest you may roll a saving throw against spells and magic effects that would cause damage or apply a status effect with advantage.
