Light Of Caiphon Image

The Light of Caiphon is a small incorporeal star contained within an amethyst gemstone. As an action, you can free the star for up to 1 minute. During this time, it may be placed wherever you like within a range of 60 ft, regardless of whether you have line of sight. The star expands to about the size of a handfruit, rotates counter-clockwise at varying speeds, and seems to bob and shift in the air arbitrarily. It sheds bright purple light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet. This light is sunlight.

As a bonus action, you can move it to another location within a 60 ft range. The star is insubstantial and passes through objects without resistance. Completely cloaking the star within something opaque blocks the light. It is not warm or cold to the touch.

You can summon the star a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. You can dismiss the star as a free action.

Boiling Vigor

  • When you free the Light of Caiphon, you feel a well of energy like a boiling sea. You gain temporary hit points equal to 1d10 + your sorcerer level.
  • While you are within 30 ft. of the star, small purple flames occasionally flicker across your body, as if escaping from within. You emit a very slight opalescent purple glow and have disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) ability checks.
  • If you fall unconscious, the Light of Caiphon floats back into the gemstone lazily and its flames flicker into your body. Rather than having to make a death saving throw, you are instead stabilized as your most grievous injuries are stitched together. While unconscious and stabilized in this way, you dream of an alien landscape and feel a slimy, slippery sensation.

Hypnotic Visage

At the start of their turn, if a sentient creature looks directly at the Light of Caiphon, the intensity of its brightness is muted within their personal perception. The peripheral environment fades and the star appears to grow larger, revealing a mesmerizing surface of silent purple flames. The creature must roll a Wisdom saving throw (against your spell save DC) to shake off the effects. On a failed save, they are stunned until the start of their next turn.
