Prerequisite: Trained with a Master
You have spent time with a master and learned from them how best to train you companion. Because of this, you are able to go on without the master to continue training them in your own way. The animal is able to learn and gain actions/reactions/bonus actions now and will follow your lead in combat. The abilities your animal gains is up to the DM, but suggestions are: pack tactics, arial assualt, double strike, distract, etc.
The larger the animal, the harder it will be to continue training them if they are larger than you.
When making animal handling checks regarding your animal companion, they are made with advantage.
