You are difficult, overbearing and generally crass in social situations, causing others to dislike you. You suffer disadvantage on all Persuasion skill checks.
FLAW. This is a flaw feat. At your DM's discretion, you may take this feat at level 1. If you do, you may also gain a feat, or increase two of ability scores by +1 (or one by +2).
Not balanced as written. Disadvantage on Persuasion AND Intimidate, and -1 Charisma might be worth an extra feat.
Is this for punishment?
Any feat that gives advantage on a roll tends to not even give a stat buff so I dont think the minus is needed. Persuasion and intimidate are also two different beasts imho so would suggest Animal handling, deception and/or even performance since they require a smoother nature to pull off well. Mainly due to the idea the less people like you, the more likely they are not going to be soothed by or trust you.
I'm a big fan of these FLAW style feats. The way I think of these are basically just a way for players to choose a Variant Human without being forced to play a human by taking something negative that will almost assuredly add some flavor to the role-playing element of the game. But I suppose if they're also taken by Variant Humans then things might get out of hand early on...
I personally do three things in every game I run: (1) ban the variant human (2) force all players to take a flaw feat (3) use the new rules for racial ability scores.
This combo means that variant human isn't the optimal pick for powergamers any more, and it means that everyone starts on the same level. It also means players can consider all races equally, and make decisions based on their RP potential / backstory fit instead of the mechanics / ASI.
I like that approach a lot. I've never rolled a variant human on principle, but there's always been a small part of me that felt like I was missing out. A feat at level 1 opens up so many interesting possibilities after all, but I'm not trying to make an optimal character or just crush my DM's spirits by effortlessly thwarting what should be balanced encounters. Thanks for the extra elaboration! If I find myself in the DM seat again I'll definitely be trying this out. And I'll talk to my current DM about Flaw Feats as well. Thanks again!
