You become a vessel for a elemental depending on your tailed beast you gain different attributes to your self and to utilize the full power of the tailed beast you must befriend the tailed beast or beat it in combat unless you are the jinchuriki of the ten tails or juubi you automatically have the abilities as the Juubi has no personality of its own you can lose control of yourself with the other tailed beast causing them to take control some tailed beast are easier to befriend then others.
