Your patron requires you to provide them with words from those you encounter by writing them in your tome. At the start of the day you must roll 1d4 to determine the number of words you are required to collect. You and your DM can agree on the phrase that initiates the collection. Ex: "May I have a word?"
When this phrase is said to another character, that character must succeed on a DC14 Charisma Saving Throw. On a successful save, the word is not collected. On a failed save, a word of the DM's discretion is removed from that character's vocabulary and they are no longer capable of saying it. If the target rolls a Nat 1 on this save, you are able to choose which word the target loses.
If you do not succeed in collecting your required number of words, you will be required to roll 1d6 and experience one of the following consequences based on your roll until you've regained your patron's favor by collecting your day's quota.
- 1 Level of exhaustion (cannot be removed by Greater Restoration or similar spells)
- All spells cast (excluding cantrips) require wild magic surge rolls
- You lose access to 1 of your highest level spell slots
- You lose access to 1 of your lowest level spell slots
- Your HP max is temporarily reduced by 1d10 (cannot be restored by Greater Restoration or similar spells)
- You subtract 1d4 to all saving and attack rolls, including critical successes
If you meet your quota, you may roll 1d6 the following day and be granted one of the following boons based on your roll.
- Your patron grants you foresight into something that will happen that day. Roll 1d20 as a portent roll you can swap for any character's roll during that day.
- Your patron grants you a temporary boost of power, allowing you to crit on attack rolls of 19 and 20 for that day
- Your patron grants you additional skills, allowing you to add 1d4 to all saving and attack rolls, including critical failures
- Your patron grants you additional strength allowing you 1d10 temporary hit points
- Your patron grants you strength of constitution, allowing you immunity to a status condition of the DM's choosing or resistance to a damage type of the DM's choosing
- Your patron grants you additional magical potential, providing you to cast 1 1st level spell without expending a spell slot
