You learn the power to use incantations to enhance your spells, making them more powerful at the cost of time and concentration.
- Increase your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
When you use your action to cast a spell with a verbal component, you can choose to expend the spell slot and delay the spell until the start of your next turn while you enhance it with a verbal incantation. You cannot enhance a spell you have already performed an incantation for, nor can you enhance a spell with an incantation if you cannot speak or the spell does not require a verbal component. If a spell cast with an incantation requires one or more targets, you may choose those targets when the spell triggers rather than when you start the incantation.
When you enhance a spell with an incantation, it gains one of the following benefits:
- If the spell makes an attack against one or more creatures, it gains a +2 bonus to the attack.
- If the spell forces one or more targets to make a save, increase the save DC by 2
If the spell does not force the target to make a save and does not make an attack, you can choose one of the following effects:
- If the spell requires you to make a spell skill check, you can add a +2 to your roll.
- If the spell provides healing, it heals an additional 3 hit points per spell level.
- You may double the range of the spell.
- You may double the duration of the spell.
If the spell does not benefit from any of the choices listed above, discuss with your DM to decide a suitable benefit for the spell.
While you are reciting an incantation, you are also holding concentration on the spell (see Concentration in Basic Rules). Taking damage while reciting an incantation will require you to make a concentration skill check, causing the spell to dissipate on a failure. If your spell fails due to a failed Concentration check, you do not regain the spell slot used to cast the spell with an incantation. If combat has ended before your spell is cast, you may choose to cancel the incantation and regain the spell slot used for it.
