The place your in is affecting your mind, either by giving Apathy, Dread, impatience, Cowardice, or something far worse. Whatever the infliction it takes a toll on you mind and or body.
The chill of this place has seeped into the characters bones causing them to become weaker. Roll 2d12 the player loses that many hit points and their hp maximum is reduced by that amount until they leave the source of the madness or have it restored via the greater restoration, heal, or wish spells. Also they become vulnerable to cold damage.
