The Sound Of Siren's Silence Image

You have been affected by a powerful eldritch bargain which has left you without the use of your voice. It physically restricts your ability to produce volume and pitch and metaphysically restricts your "voice", but it does not hinder your ability to breathe. You may or may not bear the physical scars of this bargain. It confers the following traits:

  • You gain proficiency in the Performance skill, restricted to bodily movement (e.g. playing an instrument, dancing, gesticulating).
  • You can relate basic ideas through gestures, but more complex, immediate communication is beyond your reach.
  • If you have spent consistent time with a creature or creatures over the period of at least 6 months, you can attempt to create a more complex form of sign language. Any time after 6 months all creatures must succeed on an DC 15 Intelligence check to comprehend the language, after which they are considered proficient in its use.
  • The only form of consistent and reliable communication available to you is written, which as normal requires you to share a language with the target, that both you and the creature are literate, and that some writing implements are in the immediate vicinity.
  • This prohibition against the "voice" extends to magical communication. (e.g. message, sending, etc.), which allows you to recieve telepathic messages but not send or respond to them.
  • You are unable to meet the requirements for vocal spell components.

The means of regaining your voice are at the discretion of the DM. Typically, both the physical damage to the throat and the metaphysical ownership of the "voice" must be resolved. The physical damage could be healed by a Regenerate spell, a Ring of Regeneration, or any other effect that would replace a missing limb. The ownership of the "voice" must be returned by or reclaimed from the eldritch power, otherwise it cannot be restored by any means other than a Wish spell or Divine Intervention.
