You have expertise with artisan’s tools (tinker’s tools). Using those tools, you can create a clockwork or other mechanical creation. The device ceases to function after 24 hours (unless you spend 1 hour repairing it to keep the device functioning), or when you use your action to deactivate it. Dismantling the device takes an equal time as needed to create, but all materials used to create the device are reclaimed when dismantling is complete. You can have up to three such devices active at a time. For an additional investment of gold and time, you can also create larger creations, based on the guidelines below.
| Size | Gold Cost | Time Investment |
| Tiny | 10GP | 1 Hour |
| Small | 100GP | 4 Hours |
| Medium | 1000GP | 12 Hours |
| Large | 10,000GP | 48 Hours |
| Huge | 100,000GP | 96 Hours |
| Gargantuan | 1,000,000GP | 192 Hours |
Some examples of Tiny sized devices are below.
Clockwork Toy. This toy is a clockwork animal, monster, or person, such as a frog, mouse, bird, dragon, or soldier. When placed on the ground, the toy moves 5 feet across the ground on each of your turns in a random direction. It makes noises as appropriate to the creature it represents.
Fire Starter. The device produces a miniature flame, which you can use to light a candle, torch, or campfire. Using the device requires your action.
Music Box. When opened, this music box plays a single song at a moderate volume.
The box stops playing when it reaches the song’s end or when it is closed.
Other examples of creations at other sizes could include unique magical items, creatures or vehicles. An airship would be a typical example of a Gargantuan vehicle. Based on complexity, the DM may require tool proficiency checks to determine if you successfully create such devices, or to increase either gold costs, time investment, or unintended benefits or consequences. As always, work with your DM when developing such creations.
