Through your deep understanding of arcane craftsmanship and your mastery over the intricacies of constructs, you have forged a unique bond with a Stone Defender, a guardian construct brought to life by your skills. This construct companion accompanies you on your adventures, providing both loyal protection and assistance in times of need.
You gain a Stone Defender as a loyal companion instead of your Steel Defender. This Stone Defender follows your commands and acts on your turn in combat.
Your Stone Defender's statistics are based on the Stone Defender creature found in the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Monster Manual, with the following modifications:
- Its hit points are equal to your character level plus your Intelligence modifier.
- Its proficiency bonus is equal to yours.
- It gains an additional hit point maximum increase of 2 hit points whenever you gain a level.
- It uses your proficiency bonus instead of its own for attack and damage rolls.
- Its AC is equal to 10 + your Intelligence modifier + its Dexterity modifier.
- As a reaction, You can use the Stone Defender “Intercept Attack” ability. You can use this reaction a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once). You regain expended uses of this feature after completing a short or long rest.
When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can forgo one of your own attacks to command your Stone Defender to make a melee attack. The Stone Defender uses your attack bonus and damage modifier for this attack.
If the mending spell is cast on it, it regains 2d6 hit points. If it has died within the last 5 minutes, you can use smith’s tools as an action to revive it, provided you are within 5 feet of it and you expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher. The Stone Defender returns to life after 5 minutes with all its hit points restored.
If your Stone Defender is dead for longer than 5 minutes it is considered destroyed, you can rebuild it over the course of a long rest by expending 100 gold pieces' worth of materials. This cost represents the components needed to repair and reactivate the construct.
Your Stone Defender benefits from your Artificer class features and any other effects that specifically affect your constructs.
Note:
As always, the balance and mechanics of any homebrew content should be discussed with the Dungeon Master and the players at the table to ensure it fits well within the campaign and doesn't overshadow other characters or abilities.
