You have studied occult practices and have been granted knowledge of esoteric power: the Eldritch Mark. Life force alms are required in exchanged for this eldritch might.
After a short or long rest, and after any hit dice have been rolled for health, you can choose to roll a number of d8 dice, up to your proficiency bonus, and create an eldritch mark for each dice rolled.
To create this mark, you must roll a d8 dice and take 1d8 necrotic damage equal to the amount rolled. Your eldritch mark is then seared onto your hands or face and can be used until your next short or long rest.
You can expend the eldritch mark by touching it and speaking an incantation, it burns off once used. When you activate it you gain one of the following benefits:
- As a bonus action, you can activate a destructive magic force that surrounds a creature you touch for 1 minute. Eldritch flames and wisps of shadows contort around the creature. If the creature is hit with an attack or spell that deals damage, the flames and shadows deal damage to the attacker equal to 2d8 necrotic damage (no action), as the flames and shadows leap from the creature and engulf the attacker. The flames and shadows then disperse.
- As part of an attack action, you can curse a creature. Choose a damage type: acid, cold, fire, lightning, thunder. If the creature initial had resistance, it loses resistance for 1 minute. If the creature initial had immunity, the creature loses immunity for 1 minute, but has resistance. During this minute you may add 1d8 to one damage roll of the chosen type to an attack or spell that deals damage.
- You can see normally in darkness and dim light, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 30 feet for 1 minute.
The damage you take to gain a eldritch mark can’t be reduced in any way. Any damage taken from gaining an eldritch mark can only be healed from expending hit dice during a short rest, a normal health restoration during a long rest, or by a healing spell that requires a spell slot to be expended.
