Starting at 3rd level, you are at your deadliest when you get the drop on your enemies. You add your proficiency bonus to initiative rolls and any hit you score against a creature that hasn't taken a turn yet in combat is a critical hit, as long as you were hidden from the creature before initiative began. In addition, any attack you make against a surprised creature is made at advantage.
