When you take the Attack action with a weapon you are proficient in, you can turn it into an Epic Attack. The attack proceeds as normal. However, any effects that take place with the "on hit" condition are nullified. These effects include but are not limited to sneak attack, smites, spending ki points, etc. Instead, the first time any attack as part of this action hits, the weapon's Epic Attack effect occurs.
For the purposes of Epic Attacks, only martial classes have proficiency in improvised weapons and unarmed strikes.
| Effect | Weapons |
|---|---|
| Cleave | Dagger, Glaive, Longsword, Rapier, Scimitar, Shortsword |
| Dig | Battleaxe, Greataxe, Halberd, Handaxe, Sickle, War Pick |
| Grab | Flail, Net, Whip |
| Fissure | Halberd, Lance, Pike, Spear, Trident |
| Fluster | Crossbow, Longbow, Shortbow, Sling |
| Numb | Improvised Weapon, Quarterstaff, Unarmed Strike |
| Score | Blowgun, Dart, Javelin, Maul, Morning Star |
| Wallop | Club, Greatclub, Light Hammer, Mace, Warhammer |
You can also use a different weapon's Epic Attack effect by describing how your weapon would cause such an effect. Whether this would be allowed, whether you would have disadvantage on the attack roll, or whether the move requires a skill check depends on the DM. As a guide, the Epic Attack effects occurs by a specific process that can be recreated by other weapons.
