Each time you fail an ability check, you gain one inspiration point. These points can be spent as a +1 to any attack roll, ability check, or saving throw with a maximum allowed playable points per roll being equal to your proficiency bonus. When you get up to 10 points, you have inspiration.
Inspiration now allows you to roll an additional die, and choose which die you take, as opposed to giving you advantage. You can only have one instance of inspiration, and you cannot collect inspiration points while you already have inspiration.
You can also spend your inspiration points on another player’s roll as a reaction. When doing so, the total points spent on that roll cannot exceed that player’s proficiency modifier, regardless of how many sources they receive inspiration points from.
Multiple players can use full inspiration multiple times on the same roll, however.
