Thanks to your extensive practice with weapons, you gain the following benefits:

• Increase your Dexterity score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
    *This is a choice for balance.  Either this or the bonus action attack.  

• You can make an attack with a pistol or submachine gun in your off-hand as a bonus action. 
    *This is a choice for balance.  Either this or the add 1 to Dex. 

• Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn't impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls.

• You ignore the loading properties of pistols or submachine guns.
* This feat was balanced in that it does not remove the loading property of weapons that are more than re-flavored "normal" D&D weapons or DM approved weapons. 
Higher power weapons may retain their loading property.  
This part of feat will work as written with standard weapons such as longbow, crossbow, hand crossbow (e.g. hand crossbow or longbow either as-is or flavored as pistol and rifle or blaster and blast rifle, etc.). 
It may also work for game balanced class lower powered "modern" weapons and as always with any other weapon as accepted by DM.  

Note: 
This feat is homebrew for Alumnus added for spell-jammer portion of game. 
Check with DM if feat or particular options are available. 
* This feat (nor other) does not remove loading property of "modern" or Exandria weapons that are of higher power.  Same for misfire.  
* This feat has a choice of EITHER add 1 Dexterity Bonus, OR Bonus Action Attack with pistol or sub gun, not both (for balance). 
* This feat works with standard and re-flavored standard D&D weapons (e.g. Hand Crossbow, Longbow, Crossbow, etc.).  It may work with Heavy Crossbow per DM. 
Nerfed from original, now feat power level is about the same+ as the Crossbow Expert feat for pistols, blasters, ranged weapons or re-flavored weapons with bonus action attack or boost toons Dex more like Gunner feat as player choice for Commando feat, not both.
