The voices echo in your ears and the shadow figures linger in the corners of your vision; you are constantly on edge. You gain:

  • +5 bonus to initiative.
  • Proficiency in intimidation
  • Proficiency in wisdom and charisma saving throws

But every time you take a long rest, before everyone has gained the benefits but after they have fallen asleep, you must roll 1d6 and perform the action on the table.

d6 Effect
1 The voices keep you awake until you can't take it any more and scream or yell incoherently, you do this at random so it is impossible to prevent entirely without pre-empting it. While this has no mechanical impact it might draw unwanted attention.
2 You're unable to get to sleep. You don't gain the benefits of a long rest but you can use the time to do anything else E.g. taking a short rest.
3 You are frozen by fear as the shadow men draw closer. You gain the frightened condition for 8 hours, starting at the beginning of the long rest. As the source of your fear is a hallucination it is always in your sight but because it doesn't occupy any physical space you can move as you please.
4 You gain a sudden fascination with your innards. During the night you take any blade in the room and cut yourself open, attempting to look inside. Once the long rest ends you have one less hit die than your maximum. If the rest is cut short you lose one hit die. If you have no hit die to lose you deal 1 hit die worth of damage to yourself ignoring all vulnerabilities, resistances, and immunities.
5 "You're surrounded by liars and traitors..." they whisper. You must make an attack against the ally nearest to you with your most damaging weapon or spell. If any allies are not unconscious they may force you into combat against them. You must use your turn to move within range of your target and attack them only giving up on this goal if you succeed in damaging them or take damage or are inflicted with a status condition. Anyone involved in your attack (including yourself) may choose to continue their long rest instead of ending it but they do not recover anything expended in the fight E.g. HP, spell slots.
6 Nothing happens...
