Downed
Upon reaching 0 HP you most commonly fall unconscious, which prevents you from doing anything on your turn except for making Death Saving Throws. While this is a normal part of 5e combat, it is quite dull to only roll a single dice so the Downed condition addresses this by giving you a single interaction. This condition importantly only modifies the falling unconscious portion of the standard rules when taking fatal damage that reduces you to 0hp but doesn't kill you outright. This condition does not modify non-lethal damage.
Condition
- A downed creature may interact with your environment once. They may not attempt anything that normally requires an action, bonus action, or reaction.
- The creature can be stabilized as if you were unconscious.
- The creature is incapacitated, can't use their movement speeds, and can speak only falteringly.
- The creature drops whatever it's holding and falls prone.
- The creature loses Concentration and cannot hold it while Downed
- The creature automatically fails Strength and Dexterity saving throws.
- Attack rolls against the creature have advantage.
- Any attack that hits the creature is a critical hit if the attacker is within 5 feet of the creature.
Examples
- Use an object to push or pull yourself 5ft in a direction
- Close or open a door you are directly adjacent to
- Pull an item out of your pack
- Speak falteringly to someone near you
- Attempt something slightly strenuous with great difficulty (breaking a glass vial would be a DC 20 Strength Check)
