Evolving Aberrant Dragonmark Image
Prerequisite: No other dragonmark

You have manifested an aberrant dragonmark, its chaotic nature lets you cast spells that normally shouldn't be available to you. But at what cost?

You determine its appearance and discuss with your DM a flaw intrinsic with your character nature and/or background that will evolve as you get more power from the mark.

Examples follow of effects that could happen after casting a spell trough the mark:

  • A changeling may have problems in transforming freely or could lose part of its disguise, a shifter (or any monstrous race) may fall more into its "bestial" nature and attack indiscriminately friends and foes and a spellcaster could lose momentarily its control on magic and emit an outburst of energy.

All the spells that you learn from this feature are casted it through your mark. Once you cast a spell, you must finish a short or long rest before you can cast it again through the mark. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

You gain the following benefits:

  • Increase your Constitution score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
  • At level 1 you learn a cantrip of your choice and a 1st-level spell from the sorcerer spell list.
When you cast levelled spells through your mark, you can expend one of your Hit Dice and roll it. If you roll an even number, you gain a number of temporary hit points equal to the number rolled. If you roll an odd number, one random creature within 30 feet of you (not including you) takes force damage equal to the number rolled.
If no other creatures are in range, you take the damage.
  • At level 5 the spells cast through your mark are cast at level 2 and you learn a new 2nd level spell from the sorcerer spell list.
In addition, when you spend a hit die according to your 1st level feature a roll of 2 or higher on the hit die causes the spell to be cast at a spell level 1 greater than normal, while on a 1 the spell is not cast, you do not expend your Dragonmark’s usage and you are incapacitated until the start of your next turn.
  • At level 9: the spells cast through your mark are cast at level 3 and you learn a new 3rd level spell from the sorcerer spell list.
In addition, when you spend a hit die according to your 1st level feature  you add your character level to the temporary hit points gained and the force damage inflicted.
When you inflict force damage you must choose a creature within 30ft of you to take the damage (potentially including yourself).
  • At level 13: the spells cast through your mark are cast at level 4 and you learn a new 4th level spell from the sorcerer spell list.
In addition when you spend a hit die  according to your 1st level feature  your hit dice are treated as D12, regardless of their normal die type, and when a creature takes force damage from your dragonmark they have disadvantage on their next saving throw against a spell that affects them within the 1 minute (potentially including the Dragonmark spell)
  • At level 17: the spells cast through your mark are cast at level 5 and you learn a new 5th level spell from the sorcerer spell list.
In addition when you spend a hit die according to your 1st level feature  you may choose to gain both the temporary hit points and inflict force damage on a creature within 30ft, regardless of the roll.
  • At 20th Level: You learn a new 7th or 8th level spell from the sorcerer spell list. You can cast this spell if expend the power of your Dragonmark and 5 hit dices.
When you expend hit dice  according to your 1st level feature they have no further effect.
When you cast this new spell through your Dragonmark in this way you do not regain use of your mark until you finish a long rest.
